Humor
Me
A
little laughter can go a long way.
We don't have to take it all quite so seriously,
all the time. Stuff happens – whether you want it to
or not. Why don't we use more humor to handle our business
ups and downs? Instead of pulling out the worry beads and over
thinking it, we could all take a leaf out of Amazon's book
(pardon the pun) and handle the unexpected fall-out of a well-intentioned
initiative, with a dash of irreverence and not-a-small measure
of humor.
When their recent customer promotion went awry,
prompting customers from far and wide into a frenzy of complaints
and accusations (the reasons of which I will let you uncover
in the letter link below), one customer thought the tempest
deserved a bit of wry humor and sarcasm. His letter in turn
prompted Amazon to respond with what has to be the best
customer service response letter I have ever seen! Check
out the original missive and the response here.
Life in general is full of depressing stuff.
Why let your company add to the black cloud. Acting with a
bit of humor (even better when it is aimed back at yourself)
makes you appear more human to everyone around you - customers
and employees alike. And the pay-offs can be enormous not the
least of which are increased employee moral and greater customer
loyalty.
The benefits of a good laugh are well-documented,
so just imagine what a bit of humor could do for the longevity
of your company and for your sanity along the way!
